About the event

The Segal Center welcomes Yale University's Sterling Professor Emeritus of Theater Joseph Roach to discuss Jonas Barish's iconic book The Antitheatrical Prejudice. Considered groundbreaking in its approach to theatre history when it was first published in 1981, the book soon became an essential text across theatre and performance studies curricula. A new edition of The Antitheatrical Prejudice, published by PAJ Publications in 2024, includes a foreword by Roach. Join us as we reflect on this significant work through the lens of one of the leading theatre scholars in the world today.
